UTORDA: FC Goa registered a fluent 3-0 win against Sporting Clube de Goa in the All India Football Federation Under-18 Youth League, at SAG ground, Utorda on Tuesday. 

FC Goa led 2-0 at the interval, as Joybert Almeida (25th minute) and Mueton Fernandes (41st minute) netted two in the first session while Asfin netted the third in the second half.

FC Goa began the game in attacking mode and trouble the rival defence with well orchestrated raids and kept their opponents on the back foot. Sporting Clube de Goa could have taken the lead as striker Irfan Yadwad broke the rival defence with speed and dash, however, rival defender rose to the occasion to thwart him from scoring with neat tackles. It was FC Goa's energy that would light up the occasion and provide a thrilling end to a thoroughly entertaining football. Sporting Club de Goa came close in breaking the deadlock when Irfan Yadwad muffed an easy sitter with only FC Goa goalkeeper Manav Baraskar to beat, he shot wide much to the dismay of Sporting Club de Goa supporters.

Joybert Almeida gave his side the lead in the 23rd minute when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net off a well measured pass from Sweeden Fernandes. Spurred by the lead, FC Goa upped the ante and fired couple of sorties against the rival goal and in the 41st minute Meuton Fernandes scored the insurance goal when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper Akshat Hadonkar with snap shot.

Crossing over, Sporting Clube began attacking the rival citadel but FC Goa showed character to hold on. Sporting Club de Goa came in reducing the margin when midfielder Dattaraj Govekar sped down the rival rearguard but rival defenders were alert in frustrating him with neat tackles. 

Stendly Fernandes looked to catch the rival defence on the counter attacks but his try flew over the cross bar.

However, young Gaurs ended The Flaming Oranje’s hopes of a comeback when midfielder Asfin Pinto scored in the 61st minute.

Sporting Club de Goa tried to put together a few attacks in the last moments of the game when substitute Anthony Fernandes’ volley missed the target narrowly and later Irfan Yadwad's header also missed the mark.
